It very easy to get caught up in the stuff of life. Work, family, friends, weekends, the latest Netflix series… the list goes on. It all fills our time, seemingly giving us direction and purpose. We’re busy and life feels good. And that’s great. Indeed, that’s more than great if what we’re doing is really what we want to be doing. All too often, though, we can get caught up in the routine and the busyness of what we’re doing and not realising that, in fact, the life we’re living is not what we really want. How often do we miss the opportunity to reflect on our lives and check that we are going in the right direction. Sometimes, all you need is to take a step back. How’s that working for you?
You occasionally read about people who have gone through something very traumatic. Initially, they talk about the shock of what’s happened, the loss they’ve experienced, the changes they’re having to make. Later, they seemingly celebrate the opportunity to recalibrate their lives. Interestingly, they appear to relish the chance to establish what really matters. There is a realisation that not everything that they felt was important actually is. Conversely, other seemingly insignificant aspects of life suddenly take on far greater meaning.
It got me wondering. Why do we have to wait for something bad or traumatic to happen before we stop and take stock? Surely, if we want to, we can do this at any time.
Obviously, you can. You can stop and take stock at any time. Firstly, consider all that is going well in your life. This is an important step. Most of us, when we give ourselves time, find that there is indeed a lot that is going well. Secondly, think about what could be going better. Work out how to make those improvements. Thirdly, what can you drop from your life? There are sure to be aspects of your life that offer little or no value. If this is the case, what’s the purpose of keeping it?
Be brave and be bold. What really matters to you? The rest is taking up space, time, and energy. Space, time and energy that you could be using better.
So, if you know what to do next, do it. If you’re not sure, book a free initial consultation here, and then take the next step. You know that you can do it, and you know that it makes sense, don’t you?
