Are you really just lucky, and what happens when the luck runs out? Are you going to roll the dice in this picture, or are you choosing your own luck?

Are you really just lucky, and what happens when the luck runs out?

You may be one of those people who just appear to have everything fall into place. With seemingly no effort, you get everything or almost everything that you want. Others may comment on how lucky you are. And, of course, it’s possible that you have repeatedly hit the proverbial jackpot. Equally, you may be one of those people who always seems to draw the short straw. Weirdly, your luck hasn’t run out because it was never there is the first place. And it got me wondering. Are you really just lucky, and what happens when the luck runs out?

Firstly, though, does luck really exist? Is there some metaphorical entity rolling some metaphorical dice which showers luck on some and not on others? I somehow doubt it.

A group of people climbing a mountain. Luck is, of course, nothing more than hard work and putting yourself out there.Recently, I was talking with a colleague about my current home. She observed how lucky I was to have a lovely home with no mortgage. Suddenly, it struck me. We often attribute the success of others to luck. We see the outcome, the result, and don’t get to see all of the work that led to that outcome.

There are seven doors in this picture. Which one our you choosing and are you choosing your own luck?Think about it. Seriously, think about it. Consider all of those steps that you took to get to that outcome. Potentially, the many, many steps. How much planning, how much hard work?

Additionally, reflect on the timescale to get to the outcome of now. When I think about our current home, if you had said to me when I first met my husband twenty-five years ago that this is where we would be twenty-five years later, I wouldn’t have believed you. Indeed, it would have felt beyond the possible. Yet, here we are.

Essentially, I think that is the key. It’s not about luck at all. Realistically, if you sit at home, waiting for success to come your way, it will be a very long wait. It’s all about taking action.

A busy crossroads in a city centre, much like the many crossroads we reach in life. What choices are you making?Frankly, though, it’s more than just taking action. Firstly, it’s about having that all essential plan, knowing where you are and where you want to be. Secondly, it’s about making the most of opportunities. Curiously, in the last few months I have met two people who have inherited some money. Both had allowed the money to waste away, and both bemoaned their bad luck. Had their luck really run out, or had they simply allowed the opportunities to pass them by?

Thirdly, it’s about that flexibility of thinking. One of the presuppositions of NLP is the law of requisite variety. Basically, the more flexible you are in your thinking and actions, the greater your chances of success. The road to what you want may not be easy. On top of that, you may change direction as you learn and experience more. It’s all about adapting and changing as you progress through life.

Finally, it’s essential to be out there, making life happen. As I said earlier, if you sit at home waiting for success, it will be a very long wait. If, however, you are out there and doing, you’re making connections. You’re experiencing and growing. Critically, you are at cause, in charge, and moving forward.

Those lucky breaks, therefore, really have nothing to do with luck. You chose a course of action which led to that point where an opportunity presented itself. That opportunity was always there. It was always going to be there. You, of course, had to take action to get to that point. That critical crossroads where you and opportunity coincided.

So, if you know what to do, do it now. If you’re not sure, book a free initial consultation here, and then take the next step. You know that you can do it, and you know that it makes sense, don’t you?
