It's about tweaking reality for the best results.

Tweaking reality for the best results.

I am sure that you like me want the best results all of the time. You may at times struggle to think it possible let alone achieve it. Realistically, few of us get it right and get what we want all of the time. This is particularly true when you think about the tasks that you complete. Obviously, some of them bring you joy, excitement, a sense of challenge. Some possibly less so, more so when they’re the humdrum tasks that most of have to complete. There are, though, those tasks that you avoid, postponing in the vague hope that they might just go away. What, however, if there was a way to make it better, a means of tweaking reality for the best results.

At the end of September I blogged about the latest episode of my podcast. I talked about “transforming language for the best expert results”, in which I talked about the theme of the podcast, also from the end of September. It was an introduction to modalities and sub-modalities, the language around the five senses and how by changing the sub-modalities, we can change our perceptions.

Stone steps carved into the rock in the woods. With each step you move closer to your better future. It’s an incredibly powerful language model. One really good use is when you’re setting goals. You make a plan and you work out what steps you have to take. There is a point when the plan yields its results. If you can create an image of that moment and make it as appealing as possible, it helps move you to that exciting and compelling future. Change the brightness. Adjust the colour. Increase or decrease the size of the picture. Make it still or moving. You get the idea.

In my most recent podcast, which you can listen to here (or on your usual podcast provider – find me on Spotify, Amazon, YouTube and Apple Podcasts), I further discuss the sub-modalities. Additionally, I speak about the three NLP techniques which use the sub-modalities to create change. You can switch likes to dislikes, particularly when thinking about food and drink. You can also change your beliefs and your actions, ditching what’s not helpful and changing it to something positive and helpful.

A blank notebook with a pen and two, scrunched up sheets of paper - it's all about making a planThe focus of the current series of the podcast is to look at the NLP techniques and apply them to practical situations. One of the things that I discuss is about changing how you perceive unwanted tasks. I can’t change the task, although you might be able to do. What you can always do is change how you perceive the task, making it more appealing and less like something that you want to avoid.

A wooden sign pointing to a set direction, which is what we all need when working to our goals.Obviously, you still have to get on and do it. However, if you see the task in a more positive light, it means that you are more likely to get on and do it. What is also true is that you can often delay tasks which seem challenging and unappealing. You then get on and do it, and, surprisingly, it was not as bad as you thought it might be. Strange, isn’t it?

Have a listen to the podcast. See what comes up for you. You may suddenly see a way forward.

If you know what to do next, do it now. If you’re not sure, book an initial consultation here, and then take the next step. You know that it makes sense, and you know that you can do it, don’t you?
