New Year’s resolutions are a waste of time. Most last little more than a month and by the end of year, few are sustaining any change. We may experience some regret or guilt, the feelings pass, and we repeat the process at the start of the following year. Does this sound familiar? So, here’s an alternative thought. Ditch the resolutions and make a better plan for 2026.
Imagine that it’s 31st December 2026. Importantly, you are taking a few moments to reflect on the year that is now ending. You’re mentally ticking off everything that you have done this year. You’re listing your achievements, big and small. Crucially, you have a sense of satisfaction and pride about all that you’ve done. You made exciting and compelling plans at the start of the year, and you’re delighted with all that worked out well. Critically, you understand that not everything unfolded as you planned, and that’s OK. You’ve learned, you’ve lived, and here you are.
Maybe it’s not been the year you wanted. The best-laid plans and all that. Sometimes, events overtake us and it feels that we are no longer in charge. Indeed, it really can feel like we’re at effect, disempowered and reacting to what others are doing. And yet, you’ve learned, you’ve lived, and here you are.
Life rarely works out exactly as we want. It is, therefore, essential that we don’t get too hung up on the binary notion of success and failure, something I blogged about a while ago. There are so many options beyond success and failure, with all that the rewards that we can overlook.
So, take back control and put yourself at cause. Think about where you want to be at the end of the year. Make sure that the future you create is exciting and compelling. Acknowledge that the year may be the year you want, and it may not. Continue with the plans and see where it takes you.
You’re here right now. The next step is the critical one. Who do you want to be? How do you want to be? When you’re ready to and take steps to become and be differently, you know that you’re on the right path.
If you can do it, do it now. If you’re not sure, book a free consultation here, and then work out the next step. You know that you can do it and you know that it makes sense, don’t you?
