If you’re reading this blog on the day it’s published, schools are about to start the long summer break. Unless, of course, you’re in Scotland. In which case, the school holidays started a few weeks ago. It’s always a strange time. Traffic suddenly gets quieter in the mornings. Workplaces are less busy as parents juggle the challenges of work and childcare. Plans for summer getaways come to fruition. It’s all exciting times. At least, it is for many. For some, summer is also the time to reconsider and reflect. And it got me wondering. Is the summer the ultimate time for a unique reset?
Firstly, I think that any time is the right time for a reset. Or, better said, the right time is when it’s the right time for you. Obviously, there are key days during the year. For some it’s the start of a new year. Alternatively, the beginning of the new school year is another opportunity. However, any day can be a good day if that day works for you.
Secondly, you want to pick the time when you can actively take action. If you’re on a beach is some far-flung place or being run ragged by children who have too much time on their hands, are you really able to do anything constructive?
Thirdly, the summer with all of its expectations around holidays, fun with kids, the better weather, can be a real challenge for some. Indeed, it can be the time when you realise just how much your life is not going in the direction you want.
Finally, surely the summer is time for downtime. Can you not just put your feet up and kick back?
And that’s the curious part. With the longer days and, potentially, more sunlight, we release more serotonin, a “happy” hormone. The longer days can have a positive impact on our energy levels and our sleep patterns. It is the time when we could well be in our best form.
Understandably, you may not feel this way. And that’s OK. What you do next, though, is what really matters.
The change in routine, if that is what the summer brings for you, is a chance to look at what’s going on for you. I talk a lot about taking a step back. Crucially, any opportunity to take a look at what’s going on for you is good.
Importantly, while you may find that your hands are even fuller than usual, the summer, with its longer days and different priorities, may just to be time to make that plan.
Remember, it’s a plan for an exciting and compelling future. Now may be the time you take action. Alternatively, it might be better to take the action at some later date. Key is having the plan.
By having the plan, you’re priming your unconscious mind to bring solutions into your awareness, showing you options and opportunities. Consequently, you may find you’re taking action sooner than you thought possible.
If you know what to do next, do it now. If you’re not sure, book an initial consultation here, and the take the next step. You know that you can do it, and you know that it makes sense, don’t you?
